Orlebar Brown – Swimwear That Isn’t Pulling Your Leg

So, your summer holiday is just around the corner. You’ve packed everything. Your shorts, your sunnies, your flip flops, oh, your passport too, which you almost forgot, all you have to do now is wait. But, hang on a second, what swimwear did you pack? Don’t tell me you threw in those 3/4 length boardies you got from Matalan? Or worse, those Speedo’s you bought in Turkey from that rather shady market stall last year? If the answers yes, then your definitely not ready, not only for your holiday you’ve been craving, but your local swimming pool too for that matter.

“Go on then, What is acceptable?” I hear you ask. Ok first thing, certainly no mankinis, budgie smugglers or knee length boardies. Thats the main fundamental issue here. Secondly, pick something colourful and bright to reflect your holiday. Why go to Ibiza and wear black shorts? And lastly, go for something above the knee but, not venturing your never regions. Lets say, half way from your groin. Daniel Craig rocked it well in Skyfall, so take inspiration from Bond himself.

Right, so thats the style cracked, how about some designers? Ok, well you want something that not only is acceptable on the beach but, also poolside for lunch. Orlebar Brown, (say: Or-le-bar) is perhaps The swimwear brand to only consider. With a tailored approach to swim shorts and artistic styling to each of their collections, they have been creating some truly outstanding pieces since 2007. The three designs above, named as “Bulldog” from the Miami Edition show that collaboration. We told you that “American Living” is the look for this season, as Hentsch Man unveiled at the London Collections recently, just have a gander at these on offer, true Miami styling.

But, why should it stop there? Look at what else Orlebar Brown have to offer. These “Jensen” shirts are a sight to behold. Perfect teamed with block coloured shorts for when your stopping for lunch, after messing about on the water slides, these are an excellent purchase.

I will say that these pieces don’t come cheap. The shorts retail for £195, same too the shirts. But, think of it as this. How often will you replace your swimwear? Yearly? And how much wear do you actually get out of them? Less than a week? I’m not going to repeat myself but, “You get what you pay for” in this game. So if you want to, emerge from the beach like Bond this season, you know where to go.

This summer really is The Business…….So don’t start getting f**king lemon!

Completely inspired by sunday nights tele a few weeks back, a SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY movie special…………Now with The Business laying claim to showcasing what ended up being some of the most iconic ‘geezer’ brands known to date and partially the fact that it is indeed Wimbledon this week it seems only right that due to it falling into the ‘summer attire’ category that we discuss a certain style range of short’s, polo’s and track tops you cannot risk not being seen in this summer!

business

Now I’ll tell you something, it wont meet everyones cup of rosie lee, people may be offended, some people even disgusted, they wont like the explicit nature…….Hang about what am I going on about here ? the film or the clothing, to be perfectly honest I’ve bloody lost track myself! You’ll find the odd “carboard cut out c**t” which will love it, respect it and not to mention want to see more of it, lets not forget this is top vintage clobber were going on about here.

The brands, its a select few and some of the very best. Fila, Sergio Tacchini and Ellesse, massive players within the tennis game right ? yes indeed, but it wasn’t long before these brands after being featured in such ‘geezer’ films made their way onto the streets. Some say it was the movies that made the brands, in my personal opinion the brands made the films. No one can forget that moment when Frankie (Danny Dyer) walks back into the villa…….”f**king hell Frankie you look like your about to walk out onto centre court” and that was that, the bench mark was set and we never looked back.

business

I personally wouldn’t say wearing such an ensemble on a daily basis like in the film is the best of ideas, why you might ask, well if you can hack it go ahead but the last thing you want every time you turn up somewhere is everyone expressing ever so politely how much your trying to be a geezer, trying to be Danny Dyer or my personal favourite as said to myself as it happens by a DHL delivery driver, “what’s this mate, The f**king Business” I could only but laugh.

Pick yourself up a Sergio Tacchini Dallas track top and pair that with some Fila Borg match shorts and your pretty spot on with what you see above, depending on what colours your choose. So where to pick up all the pieces I’ve just mention, well theres really only one place for it www.80scasualclassics.co.uk. Stocking everything under the sun when it comes to 80’s classics and them sort after brands you cant make any mistakes.

“WE MEET BY ACCIDENT”…….Hentsch Man, London Collections S/S 2014

DSC00613

DSC00649

The day was full of excitement and curiosity. The fact this was our first fashion press release made us think, “What was in store for us? What’s the overall key theme for next year?” The outcome? American Living is the next best thing. And as Hentsch Man continuously reiterated “We Meet By Accident.”

And indeed it was by accident. Inspired by “a road trip to nowhere” Hentsch Man’s itinerary was quite clearly shown that indeed, Southern Cali’ style is in for next Spring and Summer. Lost and forgotten New Mexico ruggedness showed amongst the collections with simple tones and slim lines. Nostalgic prints and colourful shades gave vivid silhouettes to usually rather plain, drab garments always seen here across the pond. Shape, patterns and fabric played a huge part in Hentsch Man’s individuality this season and it shows, when this is crafted into Harrington jackets and blazers. We’re big fans of the all over prints, such as the matching shirt, tie, shorts combo. Simply genius! Overall, we were mightily impressed.

Hentsch Man’s hospitality too was exceptional. Desperado’s and popcorn available for every guest and with a huge welcome as warm as their new collections! It certainly shows that Spring/Summer 2014 will be a rather interesting season not only for the ever growing brand but, for men’s fashion too. We’re sure that other labels will jump on the Americana band wagon very soon and this won’t be the last time you’ll see this entourage.

We’ll leave you with some more pics of the preview and we’d like to offer our thanks to Hentsch Man for inviting us to their excellent sneak peek!

Contemporary and Stylish don’t often cross paths, well unless we’re discussing Illesteva that is!

ILLESTEVA

You’ve already read the title, right? So if you have at least half a brain you’ll have put two and two together and realised that you’re in for something pretty special. Contemporary and Stylish……two very big words within fashion, oh yes, words you’ll hear often, too often in fact and you may just about be ready to tear the pages straight out of the dictionary where they lay gracefully, but wait, we need these, we need them to distinguish  right from wrong. Well in some cases of the 21st century put it that way!

Now I don’t quite know if it has something to do with the celebrity endorsement, their marketing or the fact every pair they release is just so dam cool but my god ILLESTEVA really do have a name for themselves.Leonard

Leonard Matte Black With Blue Mirrored Lenses $170

 Meyer-II

Meyer II Tortoise $320

Frieda

Frieda Sand $200

Now it’s all fun and games until somebody gets hurt, however the only person that will be hurting will be you, well your eyes, if you fail to slip on a pair given the next sunny day. Pretty out there I’m sure you’ll agree, BUT none the less a serious statement, style, look, whatever you want to call it for summer 2013!

Designed in none other than the ‘Big Apple’ to then be pushed on and made in a country known for its fine pizza and exquisite pasta….Italy. The sentence that would personally string to mind  is Illesteva have absolutely, positively ‘smashed’ cutting-edge sunglasses. Forget Ray-ban forget Wayfarer’s think……….ILLESTEVA.

A SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY must have this summer, in fact scrap that. Every summer, period!

“Is it true that a suit makes the man?” Ofcourse, a man wouldn’t be anything without tailoring and a knot!

I know, I know. Who am I to give advice on suits and tailoring. “A jumped up 21 year old, what does he know? get out of here” would be the response, to put it politely from my peers. Well, I don’t mean to blow my own trumpet but, I’ve been to numerous formal occasions recently and well…the suits….the suits were just shocking. I’ve turned up thinking, have I over dressed?! Am I trying too hard?!

Christ, Morning Suits, don’t get me started on them. Ok they have a time and place and sure, its the easy option but, for gods sake, where’s the imagination?! Pink too?! Is this a Gypsy wedding?! Anyway, I’m ranting now but, what I’m trying to suggest, to put it bluntly, is give it some thought. This potentially is the biggest day of your life, if not, a day you want to impress your nearest, dearest and newest acquaintances.

So, we (me and Mr. Horsley) have composed this “look” selection for suits to give you perhaps a bit of inspiration for the future or to put you off the blog completely.

Right, so above we have, Vivienne Westwood Slim Fit Suit, Grenson Marcel (SMEETSH favourites!) Paul Smith “Cherry” Shirt and a Reiss pocket square. Simple. Wear the shirt with the top button undone, tucked into your trousers, the jackets bottom button undone, no socks with the loafers. Done in the words of Gordon Ramsey. So, wear this if you’ve got a christening coming up, a wedding emerging around the corner or a classy day out soon.

One recent comment me and Owen had was “Don’t worry, you won’t look like a t**t in that mate, trust me!” I hardly think thats the way to sell a shirt do you? Abuse the customer? But, anyway the key is to take a bit of individuality to your tailoring, try something you usually wouldn’t. Why look like you’ve strolled out of the office? Or worse, returned from Grannies long awaited funeral?

So, look two here we are. Brace yourself.

20130528-193842.jpg

20130528-194426.jpg

20130528-194604.jpg

20130528-194616.jpg

Like? Well, you’ve got there, Vivienne Westwood Slim Fit Suit (Fave of mine), Burberry Prorsum Shirt, Alexandr Olch Tie, Dunhill Tie Clip, Turbull & Asser Square and Grenson Ellery. So again, a nice combo that could be fit for any occassion. Why not give it a try next time round ?

Of course there is some accessories I’ve missed here, a wicked watch would go down a treat, (look at Hamilton, IWC etc. for inspiration), a belt matching the same shade of your shoes would also be valuable,(brown to brown, leather to leather etc.) and decent socks too. Go for something adventurous, not those Homer Simpson “D’oh!” ones you got from Auntie Frieda for Christmas but, those silk Falke ones you’ve had your eye on.

So theres no excuse invest now. And if you come back with a Moss Bros suit, they’ll be hell to pay…..

Tailored Shorts. They’ll leave you looking absolutely Mustard!!

savile row

The word Tailored comes up in conversation and you’ll probably start to think of suits, you’ll be thinking bespoke and not the mention big money. If you know your stuff you will have certainly heard of Savile Row, known for its traditional bespoke tailoring nestled in one of the most expensive area’s of central london, Mayfair.

Savile Row isnt, with disappointment, the topic in question, however it’s tailoring related so was worth mentioning. Come on it’s Savile Row for christ sake.

richard james tailored Richard James £280

Tailored Shorts is more on point with what I’m discussing today, most people would sack them off in an instant, seconds within them being brought up in conversation. The problem I find with a lot of the public, including friends and family is people will categorise items and never look back. So you say Tailored Shorts and they come out with, well I’m not a business man or I’m not going to a wedding…….hello! All of that is irrelevant, style is relevant and me along with Jack both agree we’re sick to death of seeing the classic chino shorts turned up a fold or two, granted they’ll always work and they’ll always work well but a little variation this summer wouldn’t go a miss.

ps by paul smith PS by Paul Smith £110

Above are two great examples of a smarter short, take a hot day and a semi formal environment and I do mean ‘semi’ pared with a great example of suede loafers, see Grenson, throw on a white linen shirt and your there. A new favourite word of mine, you’ll be looking MUSTARD.

YMCYMC Leopard-Print £110

Still Tailored but on a more casual end of the spectrum, take these bold Leopard-Print shorts from YMC. To be worn with a strong back bone in relation to expect comments somewhere in the reign of ” whens the safari ” well if your friends are anything like mine that is.

Whats’s your favourite then? Vans, Nike Air Max’s, New Balance’s? Come on boys and girls think outside the shoe box!

We all know that trainers are bang on trend at the minute and aren’t leaving in any hurry. It wasn’t too long ago, that if you were wearing a pair of Air Max’s, you more than likely looked like you were a hoodlum or had lost the plot completely. Nowadays, you can’t walk a mile without seeing a pair of Vans, Chuck’s, Max’s or New Balances plodding around. So to keep with the theme, why not try something a little different? A different brand? Or even a different style perhaps? Here’s a few examples we’ve carefully selected to hopefully ignite your summer update.

NIKE AIR MAX 180 OG. £100 RRP

NIKE AIR TECH CHALLENGE
Now, these actually aren’t available to buy in the shops, not yet anyway. These were originally released in 1990 and have been reissued every so often, 2007 being the most recent. I hope these come around sooner than later, I tried to snatch a pair off eBay, but they sold for £110!

SS13 Collections. Im considering getting Hentsch Man. Now don’t you dare mention the word gym!!

ss13

So what with the odd post popping up here and there, it was also under debate between myself and Jack when to really start talking about Spring/Summer for this year. What with the weather we’ve had over the last week or two here in the UK now couldn’t be a better time to fill you readers in on some of SINGLETONMEETSHORSLEY’s favourite brands for this summer.
HENTSCH MAN. Launched in 2008, the pair Alexia and Max have done extremely well working together ‘probably something to do with them being childhood friends’ in creating a top end brand, with a few pop ups situated in some of the most sort after places in London. Carnaby street and not to mention Notting Hill.

hentsch-man

Check out these two seen above, ok I have not gone blind and yes what we are looking at is matching. I’m not for one second claiming matching to be cool, not a chance, but for them guys……well it’s safe to say it’s working for them.
Hawaiian print, definitely something thats all the rave this summer! I’d stick to short sleeve if you can as long sleeve pieces don’t work as well. The shirt in question is there Hawaii Steve Shirt, retailing at a more than reasonable £90, crazy ass print and I mean f**k me it even comes with its own Kent Comb, honestly what more could you want? Please tell me you’d be intrigued.

steve_shirt_hawaii

One thing I would say is a quirky piece like this isn’t something released often so you always need to keep a watchful eye on there site, thats not to say the rest of there range isn’t incredible because it certainly is. Focusing on emphasising fit, removing most fanciful details and ensuring all there clothes are flattering mean no matter what you buy your really in for something special. On that note i’ll leave you with another peek at some more of their range.

wanderer

Everything you’ve seen in this read can be found and purchased direct from www.hentschman.com. Don’t miss out this summer, be a HENTSCH MAN.

A Spiritual Lesson in Monk Toe Strap Shoes – Grenson “Ellery”

20130428-163258.jpg
I’m not a religious man, no, not in the slightest. But if I was, I sure as hell would make the best impression when spending my Sunday mornings praying to the almighty Lord. That’s if the man upstairs is there at all. Many say church is like a fashion show anyway nowadays, so why not stand out when your bellowing out “Hallelujah” in the pews?

20130428-163313.jpg
Can you identify the correlation here? “Fashion and religion is it?” Hmmm, sort of. Monk strap shoes are the topic in question. Not that they probably relate in the slightest, I’ve never seen a monk actually wear these, but, by god, they are the holy grail of men’s formal footwear. Ok, you’ve got brogues, oxfords, derby’s, loafers to choose from and sure, we love all of those, but the Monk Strap shoe is the choice of the modern day gentlemen.

20130428-163306.jpg
This particular pair from one of our favourite brands, Grenson, are the epiphany of the monk strap shoe. Traditional brogue styling on the toes, two supporting buckle straps and a whole host of colours and materials to choose from. We love the tan brown Ellery here but, there’s also black and mahogany leather as well as grey and brown suede for a slighlty more casual look.

20130428-174330.jpg
So, if your considering or have been forcefully chosen to pick some new shoes, look no further than the Grenson “Ellery“.Certainly with a price tag of £180, these will make you believe in a divine spirit and with quality you come to expect, they sure are god like.
